Description:
Elfrida Andrée’s importance in Swedish music history is both manifold and unique. Not only is she, from her vantage point as Sweden’s first woman organist, at Göteborg (Gothenburg) Cathedral, the most pugnacious and successful campaigner in 19th century Sweden for women’s place in the musical establishment, she is also increasingly recognised as a composer who successfully caught the tone of Sweden in a Romantic idiom profoundly influenced by contemporary trends in Europe at large.
